WINTER WOODPECKERS - This winter, “tap” into the wondrous world of woodpeckers! You’ll learn about how to identify our local woodpecker species, their unique behaviors and how they thrive during the colder months. We will make a bird feeder special for woodpeckers for you to take home, and afterward, go on a hike to spot them in action! NATURE JOURNALING - We’re going to be making and decorating our own nature journals. Nature journaling is a great way to observe nature and the world around us in a fun way. It forces us to slow down, pay attention, and appreciate small details we may not have noticed otherwise. Whether we’re drawing a leaf, documenting an observation, or tucking something between its pages, we’ll broaden our knowledge of nature. The recommended age for this program is 5 and older. FANTASTIC FOSSILS - Take a step back in time and embark on a fossil hike with us! Join us for an exciting hands-on excavation activity where we will learn about how fossils are unearthed, how fossils form, and how they tell the stories of our park’s ancient past. We’ll find, observe and identify real fossils along the way. Dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes – we will be searching for fossils off-trail!

Join us for a winter botany exploration hike where you will discover the hidden beauty of trees in their winter form. How’s your aim? Want to find out? Come out to the Wilderness Station where an archery instructor will lead a class on the basics of a bow and arrow. 1 mile hike on a paved trail is required to the archery field. Please let us know if you need assistance upon registering.

MELT-A-BEAD: Come to the Wilderness Station to create a one-of-a-kind melt-a-bead craft! Everything you need to create a fun craft you will cherish (or maybe even a gift for a loved one) will be provided – including a variety of bead colors and custom nature-inspired bead patterns. B.Y.O.C. TERRARIUM TINKER - Join us for a hands-on experience where you'll learn the art of crafting a unique mini ecosystem. Bring Your Own Container with a lid (32 oz maximum) OR purchase a 16 oz jar for $3 the day of the event. All other necessary materials will be provided. Select the perfect plants and artfully arrange them in a glass container. Enjoy this opportunity to bring a piece of the outdoors into your home with a terrarium that reflects your unique style!

SOLAR PRINTING - We’re going to use sun print paper and random objects, like leaves, to print patterns. We can capture the beauty of nature in a fun, creative way. It can also show us the power of the sun’s UV light and the effect its rays have on paper and light sensitive chemicals, while also creating a memorable piece of art.   The recommended age for this program is 5 and older.
