NIGHT SOUNDS HIKE - Meet at the Wilderness Station for a fun walk through the dark woods in search of our local nighttime critters! Expect a moderate 3-mile hike through the backcountry trails of the wilderness station. We will provide headlamps, but you are welcome to bring your own!

VINTAGE VENTURERS - Calling all senior-nature enthusiasts! Join us for our monthly meeting of Vintage Venturers – a senior-group hosted at the Wilderness Station! We will enjoy coffee and refreshments, read nature-inspired short-stories, and create a collective nature-craft project or go on a short, guided hike. Come meet new friends and share old memories!

FACE YOUR FEARS - Learn something new on Fall Break and conquer your fears! Join us to learn about Tennessee’s native venomous and non-venomous snakes and spiders in a safe and engaging environment. Gain a deeper understanding of these creatures and turn your fear into fascination!

FALL FOLIAGE HIKE & CRAFT - Come feel the cool crisp air of fall and see the changing colors of the leaves on the trees with us! Meet us on the porch of the Wilderness Station to hike down towards the river overlook to see the colors of fall. When we return, we will make a craft with leaves we find along the way for you to take home. Registration required. 1 craft per registration entry.

BUG SWEEP - Slimy...yucky...hairy...COOL! Learn the difference between insects and arachnids while meeting one of our animal ambassadors! Search high and low for creepy crawlies in our native garden while observing them through a magnifying glass. How many insects can we find!

RIVER EXPLORATION - Meet at the Stones River Overlook within Barfield Crescent Park. We will explore the river to catch and release crawfish, snails, and other interesting macroinvertebrates. We will discuss biodiversity and the importance of healthy waterways. Water shoes are recommended, as anyone getting in the water must keep their shoes on.
